Avalanche warning for region Indre Troms Tuesday 18.01.2022

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Published:
Large avalanches are likely. Rain will weaken and overload persistent weak layers well into the alpine. Dry slab avalanches are likely above the snow line as well.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 17. January 2022

Mountain weather

Monday 17. January 2022

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the west during the evening. -12 °C to -8 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 18. January 2022

12 mm precipitation, up to 18 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l during the evening. Moderate gale from south, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during the afternoon. -11 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
